Neil Oliver is not a scientist. He's a Scottish news presenter. He doesn't give statistics or cite studies not approved by Facebook's "fact" checkers. He's just a dude -- or I guess a "bloke" -- giving his opinion on something that concerns him. I'm actually surprised the UK didn't have him arrested mid-sentence for "misinformation."
Since here in America our president is launching a new round of panic porn to scare citizens, I feel Oliver's monologue is something for all of us to listen to and consider.
Here's the thing, if your freedom means that I might catch C*VID from you, then so be it. If my freedom means you might catch C*VID from me then so be it. That's honestly how I see it. For the sake of freedom, yours and mine together, I will cheerfully risk catching C*VID. That is a chance. One among many that I am prepared to take and happily. Life is not safe, freedom is not safe. For the sake of freedom, yours and mine together, both freedoms being of equal value, I will cheerfully risk much else besides.
Idiots will hear that and think he wants everyone to get sick. Those people are among the low information Democrats who are the most misinformed about all things 'rona. They will have you locked down so that they feel safe. They'll have your children risk losing another year of development so that they might not catch a virus. They'd rather see your livelihood destroyed and your businesses shuttered instead of making any changes in their life. They think their freedom to live in fear matters more than your freedom to live. That's the point Oliver is making. If his neighbors and fellow countrymen being free to live their lives means he may or not catch a virus, so be it.
Because here's the thing. If the government knows they can scare you into voluntarily giving up freedom, they'll keep doing so. Andrew Cuomo gave the game away when he declared "gun violence" the new public health crisis.
I've been reading about people calling other people who have not chosen to take the v*cc*ne, "Plague Rats." I've read about people calling for those Plague Rats to be rounded up and locked away out of sight. There's another Battle of Britain being fought now. It is being fought by a minority, outgunned and shouted down, by those who would accept freedom handed to them by MPs on condition they do as they are told. That's not freedom, that is tyranny. And I for one will not live under that yoke.
The Biden Administration can't even scare you properly. They wan't to bully people who are Fauci Ouchie hesitant. The CDC declared that people who GOT their Fauci Ouchie need to mask up again because they can still catch the 'rona. They tried filling in the "facts" after and wound up using two studies that were deeply flawed. The media started reporting that the CDC was reporting v*cc*nated people were still getting sick. Because that was the message being sent by the CDC. Now the White House is freaking out over the "hyperbolic" media coverage that is using fear against the wrong group of Americans.
After seventeen months (plus fifteen days), and after people like my editor Courtney have been proven right about the government time and time again, it's time to say enough is enough. No, we're not going to live in fear. No, we're not going to turn on our friends and neighbors who have made different medical decisions than us. Most importantly, no, we're not going to give up our freedom to live for your freedom to live in fear.
You are free to choose to live like that. You're not free to force your choice on me.
