Australia doesn't seem real. I know that in theory, it exists. Like, there is a plot of land on the other side of the planet called Australia. I've taken my nieces to see the Wiggles a few times, and they claim to be from there. But I have a hard time believing there is a country full of people where the government is allowed to restrict how you live your life as much as they do in the land down under. All in the name of public health.
The only silver lining is that this story is NOT the worst one we've heard. For a while, each story was worse than the one before. But now that Australia is putting rescue dogs to death to discourage people from leaving the house and rescuing them, I'm afraid for the story that is worse than that. So this story of the new lockdowns that the government is putting into place is only really bad.
Australia is now limiting how much you can exercise. That's right, in the name of a public health crisis, the government is LIMITING how much you can EXCERCISE. You are only allowed to exercise outside, without a mask, for one hour a day. But you have to have a mask on you at all times. Australia was allowing citizens to exercise outside for longer. But, and I quote, "a small group of people were using exercise the wrong way in a bid to leave the home." People were using exercise the "wrong way." As a result, the government took exercise away from everyone.
Then you have "singles bubbles." Say you live alone at home. The government doesn't want you to leave your house, but they aren't monsters. They will allow you to enter into a "single bubble." This allows you the permission to visit one friend or family member so that you may have companionship. The catch is you have to register yourself and either your friend or your family member with the government. I'm not sure what the penalty is for running an unauthorized singles bubble, but it can't be good.
At least the people are starting to rise up. The fact it got this far is a problem and the main reason Americans need to pay close attention to what's going on. Our leaders also want to limit freedoms in the name of a "public health crisis." They are limited in how far they can go for now. Unlike Australia, we have a Constitution and a Bill of Rights. Though, also, "for now." Listen very closely to the rhetoric coming out of the mouths of Joe Biden, the people who control Joe Biden, and the pro-lockdown, pro-mandate advocates.
Don't think for one second Australia can't happen here if we aren't paying attention. I doubt the Aussie were, and they are dealing with the consequences.
