When Brodigan texted me this story, he said "Guess where this happened" I knew instantly it was from the southern hell hole that is Australia. Sorry to all you Aussies out there. I have nothing but love for the people of Australia. If they're not crazy. Chris Hemsworth all day every day, you know? But the Australian government and the Australian people who're more than happy to comply with the Australian government can dig just a few feet deeper and go straight to hell. This story is actually from October of 2020, but a blue checkmark tweeted it yesterday so it's once again making the rounds. Likely because Australia is, as already stated, a hell hole. But the hell started last year. Not 2021. There's a lesson in that. Four newborn babies in Adelaide died after being denied heart surgery possible at hospitals farther away. Due to travel restrictions because of a virus, those babies are dead.
Adelaide, the capital city of the state of South Australia, doesn't offer paediatric cardiac surgery. According to local news reports, this means about 100 babies are sent interstate for treatment annually, typically to Melbourne's Royal Children's Hospital.
Because of COVID-19 lockdown restrictions, however, Melbourne no longer remains an option. Patients must be sent to Sydney instead.
Melbourne is much closer to Adelaide than Sydney. 45 minutes closer by plane. Which makes a big difference when you're in need of a heart repair. But because of lockdown restrictions in 2020, the babies couldn't go to Melbourne. So instead they didn't go anywhere. They died in Adelaide.
The infants never left Adelaide, news reports indicate, presumably because doctors either determined they would not survive the lengthy trip or because Sydney's Children's Hospital at Westmead—the lone hospital available due to travel restrictions—lacked the capacity to treat them.
Whatever the case, because of the travel restrictions and the lack of a cardiac center in Adelaide, the infants failed to receive treatment that could have saved their lives.
This is important because it happened in 2020. Meaning the shit we're seeing now coming from the land down under only BUILDS off of babies denied heart surgery due to COVID restrictions. Australia hasn't gotten better, mates. It's only gotten worse.
Australia is allowing innocent babies to perish because of COVID-19. Days ago, a local government in New South Wales ordered the shooting of rescue dogs to prevent people from traveling to rescue those dogs. Got that? Babies allowed to die a year ago. Innocent dogs actively shot in 2021. These actions, in my opinion as a conservative blogger, spell certain doom for the nation. People in Australia, in government and in healthcare, are willing to extinguish innocent life either passively or actively. Period. Hard stop. They'll say they're doing it because they were ordered to. They'll say they're doing it because they have no choice. They'll offer any number of excuses to excuse their abhorrent behavior.
Fuck that and fuck that hard. You always have a choice. There are always other options. The other options include not killing innocent beings. Those rescue dogs represent innocent beings. Shooting helpless dogs is just one step away from shooting people. Do not even pretend to defend the action. Evil often takes gradual steps.
Those four babies weren't given a chance. It's unclear from the FEE article if the parents of those babies took them out of the hospital and made a run for it. It's unclear from that article if any doctor or nurse said "To hell with this" and split for Melbourne or Sydney. Because I can't know what the doctors, nurses, and parents attempted, I can't really opine.
But what I have seen in America is a lot of "well I had to comply because [it was inconvenient to fight back]." The compliance path leads to a destination like Australia. Find your inner bitch or asshole and let that person out to fight. Today it's masks and vaccine passports. But one day it could be your life.
We cannot become Australia. They're a cautionary tale until they're our next chapter. We have the means to fight back. But do we have the courage?
