Opinion: There Are Many Good Teachers in America and We Need You Now

If I’ve become known for anything in the short time I’ve been at Louder with Crowder Dot Com, it’s probably my undeniable disdain for public schools and universities. And as I write, day after day, about crooked teachers’ unions, unhinged activist teachers, and school boards who couldn’t care less about the concerns of parents, I never take a moment to point out the teachers who aren’t out there destroying the minds of our children and, by extension, our country. As our kids get back to school after the holiday break, I wanted to take a moment to address them. They do exist, and we need them now more than ever.

Even here at Louder with Crowder, we have several examples of teachers who have stood up for what they believe is right. This teacher stood before the school board and addressed parents, students, and the board, telling them that the indoctrination in the schools was present, pernicious, and required fighting against. This teacher chose to quit her job instead of acting as an enforcer for the school’s progressive (read: regressive) agenda. And this administrator came out to tell everyone about the horrible pedagogical practices and theories being used to indoctrinate students every day. These great educators, worthy of the title, exist.

However, even as these teachers exist and work throughout our nation’s public school system, the left’s ideological war on our children rages on in an unmitigated fashion. Why? Because those with the most power make certain this is so. The teachers’ unions use the power they have to influence government policy while protecting the teachers performing the indoctrination of our children. The unions and politicians have an agenda, and they are working to ensure nothing stands in their way. They have the numbers, the money, and the power to do just that.

But this need not be so. The good teachers who remain in the system are the key to turning the tide against the unions, against the system that would see all students brainwashed into the radical leftist orthodoxy.

First, stop paying dues to the unions. You have no obligation to join a teachers’ union—not since the Janus v. American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees case—and they don’t deserve your money—money they will use to finance their war against everything you believe in and hold dear. Starve the unions of your money. Although they’ll still receive fat checks courtesy of our broken government, it’s one step further to pulling the curtain back and showing on whose behalf they are really working.

Next, begin networking with your fellow teachers, the ones who believe in the same principles you do, and look into leaving the public school system and starting something on your own. Many parents would be more than willing to pay a little extra to ensure their children are getting a quality education without the political messaging, and with the online resources available, it is easier than ever to access all the information necessary to construct a fantastic curriculum.

I do believe this is one of the best chances we have. If you leave the schools bereft of the teachers they require to operate, there will be nothing left of the system. The public schools will crumble, and our communities will thrive as our students study in smaller groups led by teachers their parents can trust. Social media is an amazing tool to network with parents in your community to gauge interest in starting such programs. And the potential exists to actually increase your earning potential. (My sister is a second-grade teacher, and I had once desired to be a high school English teacher—I know how little teachers are paid. And before you ask, I have been working to convince my sister to start her own private school for a while now. I’ve been making headway. Fingers crossed.)

Finally, if you can, just leave the schools. As previously stated, without you there’s nothing left. Surely the schools cannot function with only the left-wing radicals who currently walk the halls of schools all around the country. I understand that teaching may have been your dream, but I doubt your dream was to aid rabid ideologues in their quest to indoctrinate students, year after year. You can do as I mentioned before and start something new and still teach. You can perform private tutoring, find a position at a private institution, or move into a new career, but you mustn’t support the public schools in their malevolent mission.

Regardless of the path you chose, from this point forward, you must speak out. You must make public everything you see and experience in your classrooms, during meetings, in emails and presentations, and mandatory training. We—the students, the parents, every freedom-loving American—need you to inform us as to what is going on when we cannot be present. You are on the front lines of this fight, whether you want to believe it or not. But I believe you can turn this battle around. I believe you can do far more to save education in the United States than you probably ever before believed possible. Now, I need you to believe it, and I need you to act. We, your countrymen, need you to act.

In the future, you will undoubtedly see more pieces from me decrying the state of our public school system. I’ll write about more insane, inane, incredibly idiotic teachers who have been caught by hidden cameras saying something despicable, made an awful TikTok video singing a song targeting parents, or have been exposed for being perverts. And I’ll probably make the mistake of painting with too broad a brush. But I know you good teachers exist, and so do all Americans—we all know you’re there.

I’d enjoy nothing more than to have even more videos of teachers tearing apart school boards, standing up to administrators, and exposing ideological curricula, but there aren’t many of these. I guess you’ll just have to start providing me the material with which to work.

To all the teachers who aren’t actively participating in the left’s assault on our children, we need you now. We need you to #FightLikeHell.
