Popular social media influencer Rep. AOC caused a stink, partying maskless in Miami. It wasn't that she was partying in Miami. Lots of social media influencers do that. But Rep. AOC also has a side hustle as a member of Congress, where she and her political party demand masks and mandates on other Americans. Rep. AOC even told her boss she can't come to work because of all the Omicron going around. I guess it's the new "playing the cramps card."
I don't blame her for going to Florida. America's Governor Ron DeSantis has created a freedom-loving state. That's where the second level of hypocrisy comes from. Rep. AOC and her allies in the media have spent months attacking DeSantis about how dangerous his state is over DeSantis' opposition to mandates and masking children. Unamused by all this is Team DeSantis. Press Secretary Christina Pushaw needed only two tweets to explain the problem to people like they're five. That's helpful when dealing with Rep. AOC.
"I don’t mind that AOC is partying mask-free in Miami. But I DO mind that 2-year-olds in her district are force-masked for hours at daycare and NYC schoolchildren are eating lunch outside in freezing temperatures. “
"AOC’s behavior is not hypocrisy — it is HIERARCHY. By openly flouting the same rules that she pushes on her constituents, she is signaling that she is powerful and does not have to abide by the same restrictions as the peasants."
Side note: Am I the only one who gets P.O.D.'s "Boom" stuck in my head when I read Christina's last name? I don't know what the lead singer says at the beginning of the song, but it sounds like "pushaw." And she does lower the BOOM when she tweets. But that's not important right now.
"It's not hypocrisy, it's hierarchy" is the issue. Rep. AOC knows she's being a hypocrite. She doesn't care because she knows she'll never be held accountable for it, not by low-information NYC voters and definitely not by the media. If anyone criticizes her, she'll just claim we're jealous because we can't date her. Then when we say "eww, gross," she can cry sexism. That's when the media will pay attention. Also, when Ron DeSantis takes a day off of work to take his wife for cancer treatments.
If I were a NYC parent and my five-year-old was forced to eat outside in 30-degree temperatures while my elected official was living her best life in Florida, I wouldn't vote for that elected official again.
