Glenn Youngkin campaigned for Virginia governor endorsed by a diverse group of parents who were concerned about their children's education. Terry McAuliffe ran for governor endorsed by the teachers' unions who control the school boards. Glenn Youngkin is governor. Terry McAuliffe is throwing back margaritas with Jen Psaki somewhere. Gov. Youngkin went right to work on day one and signed an order removing anti-science mask mandates. Parents could choose if their child wears a mask or not.
So of course the school boards are suing. They are claiming Youngkin's executive order is unconstitutional, citing "Article 8, Section 7 of Virginia’s constitution, which asserts that 'the supervision of schools in each school division shall be vested in a school board.'" In other words, the position of the school board is f*ck your parental rights. The school boards that signed on to the lawsuit are Alexandria City Public Schools, Arlington Public Schools, Falls Church City Public Schools, Hampton City Schools, Prince William County Public Schools, and Richmond Public Schools. Note: Arlington is the district where the teachers union sent a typo-riddled letter out to parents about while schools needed to be closed.
Much of "the science" behind the CDC's school mask mandates is flawed. Much of the anti-science guidelines were written by the anti-child teachers' unions. Much of the Democratic Party who gets paid millions and millions of dollars from the teachers' unions don't think you as a parent should have any say in your child's education or well-being.
The Virginia Supreme Court is expected to rule on this by the end of the week, and the Youngkin Administration is asking parents to please be patient.
All eyes are going to be on Virginia for much of 2022. Republicans view Youngkin's victory and the diverse coalition he put together as an example to be followed. The key issue besides the economy was education and what the union control school districts have been putting our children through. Democrats seem content to stay on the wrong side of history there.
