Brianna Kupfer Murder Update: Suspect was Out on $1000 Bond Over October 2020 Crime

Los Angeles police have named a suspect in the Brianna Kupfer murder. Kupfer, a 24-year-old design student, was stabbed to death while working in a furniture store. Police have named the suspect as 31-year-old Shawn Laval Smith.

Smith has a lengthy rap-sheet. Fox News reports that he was most recently charged with shoplifting and did jail time for assaulting a police officer. Smith was also out on a $1,000 bond over an unknown October 2020 misdemeanor. The Daily Mail reports Smith also appears to have been on a $50,000 bond in Charleston, South Carolina on a shooting charge.

Los Angeles has been rampant with crime as of late. Defund-the-police liberal cities have instituted extremely progressive policies that have led to criminals simply not being charged with crimes. People caught committing smash and grab robberies are released the next day. It has become so bad that police have warned people against visiting the city. It's not safe, and progressive policies prevent the police from being able to effectively protect you.

Los Angeles District Attorney George Gascón is under fire for the crime surge and for his policies being responsible FOR the crime surge. Gascón took office in December 2020 and ran on the promise to stop prosecuting many misdemeanors. Though, in fairness to Gascón, he took office two months after Smith's October 2020 misdemeanor that let him return to the streets on a $1000 bond. Even though Gascón supports the same policy, he was not responsible in that instance.

Smith did not respond to The Daily Mail's request for comment.

Shawn Laval Smith is considered armed and dangerous. The city of Los Angeles is only considered dangerous.
