Perhaps I’m in the minority here, but I couldn’t care less about someone’s health when I think about throwing them in prison for committing a crime. This is especially the case when the said criminal is a degenerate pervert caught with 832 indecent images of children. I say lock him up and throw away the key, but that hasn’t happened.
Victor Melleney, 76, former producer for the BBC, was caught in 2018 with 832 images of children spread over several devices. As per the Daily Mail, 612 of the images were located on a single hard drive.
Melleney admitted to authorities that he was addicted to legal pornography but doesn’t know how the illegal images of children appeared on his devices. (We can just memoryhole the fact that the hard drive with most of the images was found in the pocket of the robe he was wearing when the police arrived at his home.)
I’m sure he has no idea. I’m sure the images just appeared, created by some unexplainable code deep within his electronic devices. Or maybe the pedophile fairy put them there. We’ll never know.
My sarcasm aside, the jury seemed to believe him.
“Last month, a jury found Melleney, of Holland Park, guilty of possessing indecent photographs of children. They found him not guilty on three other counts. […] making indecent photographs of children, possessing an extreme pornographic image and possessing a prohibited image.”
On Friday, the judge sentenced Melleney to 20 months in prison for the child pornography and two months for gun charges (stun guns and gas spray that were found in his home.) The sentence was suspended due to Melleney’s “poor health and the Covid-19 pandemic.” Melleney had recently suffered a heart attack.
Instead of actual prison time, he’ll serve 40 days in rehabilitation and register as a sex offender for 10 years.
