To say Long Islanders are fired up about the NHL playoffs is an understatement. All it takes is five minutes of watching Barstool Sports livestream from Borelli's to see that. And the national anthem isn't really used for "call and response." But when the audience ahead of the Islanders' Game 6 victory over the Bruins essentially assumed control of the PA system, singer Nicole Raviv accepted she was now a backup singer and ran with it.

I won't pretend to be a sudden stowaway on the Islanders bandwagon. I was the fan during their '80s Stanley Cup run, but that was mostly because a friend was a fan and both of our dads were Rangers fans. Outside the team being a young boy's first act of rebellion and the time I got to meet Bobby Nystrom in the mall, hockey hasn't really been something I've followed.

But I am a pretty big America fanboi. And when our national anthem only seems to make the news for bitter political reasons, this was a nice reminder of what the song means for most of us. God bless Long Island and God bless America.
