Columbia University Student Defects from North Korea, Discovers Columbia University Is Worse

North Korea is the bad Korea. It's been a problem for some time . There was a war and a funny TV show (for the first two seasons) about it. One only has to look to two popular NoKo documentaries to see just how bad: Team America: World Police (2004) and The Interview (2014) . Yeonmi Park fled the communist hellhole when she was thirteen. She made it to America for a new life and started school at Columbia University. Where she discovered she fled one communist hell hole for another.
According to Park, the socialist indoctrination camp reminded her of home.

I literally crossed the Gobi Desert to be free and I realized I'm not free, America's not free. I expected that I was paying this fortune, all this time and energy to learn how to think, but they are forcing you to think the way they want you to think. I realized, "Wow, this is insane." I thought America was different, but I saw so many similarities to what I saw in North Korea that I started worrying.
That's when Park, who was raised to believe that only North Korea hated America, discovered that Americans hate America. Though "Americans" is a loose term when describing Columbia University. It's the home to Mattress Girl , where they destroy American flags and the inmates have been running the asylum for some time . Park actually had a uniquely American experience. Many Americans, upon graduating high school, go off to college because they are told that's what they have to do to better themselves. Upon starting college they discover that all white men are evil, all of their favorite authors are racist, and America sucks overall. Also, the whole pronoun thing. Which for someone for whom English is a third language, Park understandably found confusing.
Is saying Columbia University is just like North Korea a bit of a stretch? Who am I to judge? I believe the best way to stop hate is to amplify Asian voices. Yeonmi Park isn't the first immigrant to flee communism who tried warning us about the similarities she sees creeping into American society. She's not even the first one to do so in the past week . Americans should start listening.
