At this point, I'm surprised they still let Mike Rowe have a Facebook page. He regularly takes a sledgehammer to progressive orthodoxy without having the "proper" credentials to do so. Proper is in finger quotes because regardless of the issue or your credentials, if you disagree with a leftist, it's not "proper." It's surprising that Mike Rowe talking about what an alleged waste of money a four-year degree is isn't met with a "fact" checker warning. There are no facts to check in someone issuing an opinion. But he said the opinion out loud, and there's a reason I put "fact" in finger quotes as well.
A fellow Rowe stan asked our favorite studmuffin if he saw Bill Maher's rant against taxpayers paying for other people's college tuition. Maher echoed a lot of the things we love hearing Rowe say himself. Rowe enjoyed the rant and while acknowledging there are others more qualified to speak on the "profound unfairness" of the Biden administration expecting you to pay for someone else's four-year gender studies degree, he added the following truth bomb:
I want people to radically rethink higher education. Toward that end, I've always maintained that making a four-year degree "less expensive" is a great symptom, but a lousy goal. The better goal is to make a four-year degree less necessary than it currently is. That's not an "anti-education" position. It's a cry for rationality, proportionality, and common sense. The vast, overwhelming majority of jobs that require a diploma from a four-year school, should not. Some should, but most should not.
When it comes to learning, we can't keep presenting the most expensive path – college – as "the best path for the most people." And we can't make college cheaper by asking everyone else to pay for it. That's part of what makes the whole proposition a "racket."
I'll add part of the "racket" is that a four-year degree gives Marxist professors four more years to try to control what and how you think. If instead of paying $60,000 for a four-year diploma, you take a trade job where someone pays you $60,000, you're learning on your own without their "guidance." You're learning how the world actually works instead of leftist douchelords indoctrinating you on how they want the world to work. Leftist douchelords hate it when you do that. It makes It harder for them when they get elected president.
There's also one thing I've noticed in my quarter-century since I went to college. Other than people who went to school for a very nice reason (doctor, lawyer, teacher, etc.), no one I know is doing what they went to college for. What I'm doing now didn't even exist when I went to college. It's not necessary for you to start your life in massive loan debt for that end result.
Massive loan debt that leftists also want taxpayers to bails others out on.
