There are people in this country who think elitist douchebags on cable news are out of touch with America. Or at least the America outside New York City and Washington D.C. There are also elitist douchebags on cable news who believe the only reason Americans think they're elitist douchebags is that the former president pointed it out. MSNBC's Morning Joe has becomes a sleeper cell for the latter group. Evident by New York Times editorial board member (shocking) Mara Gay saying the sight of American flags deeply disturbed her.
She also says the word "whiteness" a lot, claiming it's an actual thing. Like most elitists, I'm assuming her friend group can be broken into people who voted for Joe Biden and people who voted for Joe Biden but weren't happy about it.
I was on Long Island this weekend, visiting a really dear friend and I was really disturbed.
NOTE: This past weekend was the anniversary of D-Day. Also, the previous weekend was Memorial Day.
I saw, you know, dozens and dozens of pickup trucks with expletives against Joe Biden on the back of them, Trump flags, and in some cases, just dozens of American flags, which is also just disturbing, which essentially the message was clear, this is my country. This is not your country. I own this.
The conversation was about January 6 and investigating "what led to it." Gay's belief, and I'm sure the rest of the panel's, is that American flag plus pro-Trump or anti-Biden bumper stickers equal literally white supremacy, And how that will lead to another quote-unquote "insurrection." There's your context, if it matters to you.
What's absurd is how people on MSNBC see the American flag and the first thing that comes to mind is hate. That the person who is waving the American flag is deep down a racist who resents anyone who doesn't look like them. Keep in mind, this is the same MSNBC that spent eight years accusing anyone who had a different opinion from Barack Obama of racism. IF there is any resentment, NBC News employees should all take a long look in the mirror.
And also don't be surprised when the half the country you hate doesn't take your "concerns" seriously.
