Alumni of MIT Tom Hafer and Henry Miller have had enough of the woke disease spreading through our universities. Writing in the New York Post, Hafe and Miller deride the university for "cav[ing] repeatedly to the demands of 'wokeness'".
Hafe and Miller point to two specific concerning events that led to their decisions to pull financial support from their alma mater: the dismissal of Father Daniel Moloney and uninviting Dr. Dorian Abbott, who was invited to give a public lecture. What were the grave sins of these two men?
Father Moloney was dismissed after writing a letter toward the beginning of the infamous George Floyd protests within which he points out obvious facts: Floyd "had not lived a virtuous life", and there was no evidence that his death was the result of racism. Neither of these facts has ever been disproven because they can't be.
Where Father Moloney was canceled for slandering the patron saint of the left, Dr. Abbott's egregious transgression was questioning the tenets of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), writing in Newsweek that the practices associated with DEI "'violates the ethical and legal principle of equal treatment' and 'treats persons as merely means to an end, giving primacy to a statistic over the individuality of a human being.'" Yet again, this makes perfect sense. But Abbott was uninvited for such comments.
But these two instances of cancelation were just the final straw, not the totality of what Hafe and Miller believe is wrong with the university—which could be expanded to include all universities.
"First, facts are not racist, and stating facts is not racism. Second, a person's ethnicity or skin color does not define him or her as a racist, oppressor or victim. Third, intellectual ability and achievement are the principal requirements for admission as a student or faculty member to any university. Fourth, diversity of opinions is desired and supported. Fifth, a just, democratic society requires equal opportunity, equal justice and equal responsibility; it does not require equal outcomes. And finally, adherence to the statements above must not be sacrificed for political, social or public relations considerations."
Yes! I cannot express this enough: Every person providing financial support to universities needs to take this exact stance and pull said aid until these institutions realize their errors. Bring the colleges to their knees!
