In 2020, it wasn't enough for leftists to defund the police. They also, in your more liberal cities, made it harder for the police who weren't defunded to keep citizens. See West Coast, Flash Mobs of People Stealing In. Leftists also decided that bail wasn't fair. See Killer, Waukesha. In New York City, reforms were passed so that criminals who commit most misdemeanors and minor felonies couldn't be held on bail. That's why Darrell Johnson was out to assault two women this week and is already back out on the streets.
Johnson assaulted a man in August of 2020. But, he didn't assault him enough to where the judge could hold him on bail. Even though he has a list of priors dating back to 2014. The case is still pending.
This week, Johnson assaulted a woman, leaving what the NY Post refers to as a “disfiguring laceration” to her face. Three minutes later, he assaulted a second woman. Both women needed to be taken to the hospital. But Johnson was released under "supervised monitoring" because he didn't assault either woman enough to be held on bail.
One victim's husband tells the Daily News:
"He gets arrested and they give him lunch and dinner, then release him... I guess it’s OK to beat the sh*t out of a poor woman and as long as you don’t kill that person..."
Welcome to New York. It's been waiting for you... so it can assault you, but only assault you a medium amount.
There are two things at play here. One is how batsh!t crazy Democrats have gotten in big cities, and they were allowed to get so bad because of voters (again cough::San Francisco::cough). But more importantly, this shows the MAJOR IMPORTANCE of local elections. In 2020, everyone was focused on the presidential race. How many do you think were focused on their local city council races? Local politicians are the ones who enacted and passed these laws. The president just blames everything on the pandemic.
