The trans woman who allegedly exposed her penis in the women's locker room at Wi Spa in Los Angeles is speaking out. Also, a warrant was issued for her arrest this week. Also, she's a tier-one sex offender. All of this is according to the New York Post.
Let's recap how we got here. Earlier this summer, a woman (biological) dosed off in the women's locker room at the spa. She was of the impression that being a woman (biological), the locker room was a safe space. When she woke up, she saw an exposed penis. Assuming it was a male penis -- as one might do -- in the women's locker room, she registered a complaint with the spa.
The woman (biological) was informed she was mistaken. The penis in question belonged to a woman. That woman, while born a biological man and hence having what was commonly known as male genitalia, now identifies as a woman. Therefore, it was a woman's penis exposed in the women's locker room. Easy mistake, amirite? The original woman was still outraged though.
There were protests. Antifa showed up to do Antifa things. At one point, a trans non-binary punk band played a concert outside the spa. It was a weird few weeks. Even by Los Angeles standards.
That brings us to today's article in the New York Post. The transwoman at the center of the exposed genitals brouhaha is 52-year-old Darren Merager. This is her name AS REPORTED BY THE POST. No deadnaming here! Even though Darren is traditionally a male name for people who at one point were traditionally considered males. Merager maintained her innocence to the Post and claims she is the real victim here. A victim of sexual harassment by transphobic women.
"Everything about the Wi Spa was a bunch of garbage and lies. [No one] saw me naked. I was underwater with water all the way up to my chest."
This is not Merager's first run-in with the law. According to the Post, Merager has priors.
Law-enforcement sources revealed that Merager is a tier-one registered sex offender with two prior convictions of indecent exposure stemming from incidents in 2002 and 2003 in California. In 2008, she was convicted for failing to register as a sex offender.
Merager declined to comment to the Post on the convictions. Though she is reaching out to progressive lawmakers hoping to have laws changed to better protect trans people. According to Merager, "if you go into an area where you're expected to be nude, there has to be an indecent exposure exemption."
As of this writing, Darren Merager is still at large and is not believed to have turned herself in. We here at LwC will provide updates to this story as it develops.
