This is Joe Biden's America. People so living in fear that they can't pull down their masks so that a deaf woman can order a cup of coffee. Or, they can put down the mask and are just assholes. That part is open for interpretation. What's clear is that the anti-science obsession over wearing masks isn't just for dementia-riddled chief executives. It goes for donut shop managers too.
That's at least according to this deaf woman, who claims she was not only refused service at a Dunkin' Donuts but was berated too. I say "claimed" and should probably throw in an "allegedly" for independent "fact" checker reasons. But I have no reason to doubt what was expressed in this video is not an accurate description of what happened. She wasn't wearing her hearing device at the time. All she needed was for someone behind the counter to pull down their mask temporarily so that she could read their lips.
"I called this girl over, told her I was deaf, I have to read her lips. She didn't take her mask off. She goes to the manager, and I'm an Uber driver, so I got a ride and I was like 'hey, I have to order my drink, I have to go.' The manager comes over, and I could just tell by his body language, his face, he was going off."
"I kept saying I can't hear you, I can't hear you. … He refused to write anything down. He refused to pull his mask down. We're six feet apart through the Plexiglas to the side. I'm wearing my mask."
First, regarding whether it's safe or not to pull your mask down for a moment:
Second, we are now seventeen months past "fifteen days to flatten the curve." While some of us woke up and are able to see through the bullsh*t, others have managed to get worse. People are choosing media panic porn over their family doctor when it comes to wearing a mask. Grown-ass adults are missing the irony of them pulling their masks down to read a speech demanding school kids wear theirs at all times. Now we have people who are so used to living in fear, they can't slide a mask down to say "Would you like milk and sugar?"
Instead of asking Anthony Fauci and Jen Psaki about Nicki Minaj's friend's cousin's testicles, we should ask them about this. What does "the science" say about pulling your mask down temporarily to be inclusive of someone with a disability? SCIENCE says it's fine. But SCIENCE also calls into question how effective masks are and have ever been. The Biden admin only follows "the science."
