The inmates have been running the asylum in many of our most liberal cities for a few months now. Local businesses need to board up their windows with signs begging "please don't loot us." All while the elected officials have sat back and let it happen (see THESE SEATTLE RESIDENTS ARE FED UP WITH 'BLACK LIVES MATTER' AND ANTIFA DESTROYING THEIR CITY and SEATTLE RESIDENT SHARES HOW HORRIBLE CHOP REALLY WAS. VOTERS IN OTHER LIBERAL CITIES NEED TO PAY ATTENTION.). It's easy for those of us out in real America to say "hey, this is what you idiots keep voting for," but without a mayor or city council on the ballot this year the residents of these cities are left to fend for themselves. Ted Cruz wants to change that with his RECLAIM Act.
Simply put, if you're an elected official who has looked the other way while your city is being ravaged by peaceful rioters or allowed them to set up "autonomous zones" and have left the rest of you constituents to fend for themselves, lawyer up.

Most elected officials will always choose the path of least resistance. If they have to choose between rioters vs. residents — where one group will show up at their house and the other group will just whine on Twitter — they'll give the keys to the city to the rioters. I mean, what are the other residents going to do about it? Vote for a Republican?
Mayors and city councils need to know that their decisions, or lack of decisions, have consequences. If one of those consequences is hitting them in their pocketbook so be it. There's no reason local business owners need to be the only one who have their livelihoods destroyed because leftist politicians value their political agenda over the voters.
