People fell for the media hype about what a good job Andrew Cuomo did handling the pandemic. I myself fell for it, and that is a shame I'll have to carry with me for some time. But looking back, the governor of the state with the highest death toll shouldn't be praised for remembering to put pants on let alone how he tackled the 'rona. Especially when there are studies showing most of the first wave originated from the Cuomo's state (see WITH JUST A FEW TWEETS, CNN'S JAKE TAPPER EXPOSED THE TRUTH ABOUT ANDREW CUOMO AND COVID-19 and REPORT: LOOKS LIKE NYC MIGHT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR SPREADING COVID NATION-WIDE).
Most of New York's 'rona deaths come from nursing homes, and a Cuomo policy where people who had the 'rona where put back in nursing homes. Which is an odd decision to make, considering one thing we know about the 'rona is how susceptible old people are to die from it. I can think of 6,200 families who have a question for Chris Idiot's Brother. Actually more families, because according to the Associated Press, New York has been undercounting.
You see, New York only counts a nursing home death if you died in the nursing home. Every other state is counting it if you were transferred from the nursing home to a hospital and died there. Had Cuomo been counting the same way every other state was?
For all 43 states that break out nursing home data, resident deaths make up 44% of total COVID deaths in their states. Assuming the same proportion held in New York, that would translate to more than 11,000 nursing home deaths.
I see.
Now, I'm not a math guy, but if my calculations are correct out of 32,000 NY COVID deaths — again, the highest in the country by far — that means over a third of them are from nursing homes. Ironically enough, also in the news yesterday was Andrew Cuomo saying he doesn't support an independent investigation into his gross negligence and all the blood on his hands looking into what exactly happen with the virus and NY nursing homes.
Maybe the next time he his yucking it up with his brother on CNN we can get an answer.
