This High School Football Coach's Powerful Speech on Racism is What We Need Right Now

This High School Football Coach's Powerful Speech on Racism is What We Need Right Now

I don't envy teachers and school officials as students start to head back to school. Dealing with the COVID-19 aftermath would have been difficult enough without the racial strife consuming the country right now (see COPS WERE CALLED ON THIS 11-YEAR-OLD FOR HAVING A BB GUN — IN HIS HOME — DURING A VIRTUAL CLASS and DAVE CHAPPELLE DROPS RAW SPECIAL ON GEORGE FLOYD, DROP-KICKS DON LEMON, VIRTUE-SIGNALING CELEBS). Hopefully every school has someone like Texas football coach Jason Glenn. Hearing this speech, I'm ready to hug it out with my brothers from other mothers. Then go run through a wall.

The stuff that's going on in our country right now? That's not going to divide us! Your skin color, your race, your religion ... that won't divide us! We're not doing that! We won't allow it!

We're not gonna be divided! We're not gonna let society tell us who to hate — you need to decide that ... by their heart, their character, and how they treat others!

[White Assistant Coach was] one of the first guys I met welcomed me here ... this is my brother! Love him to death! And you know what? Nothing — society, social media, TV — nothing's gonna change the way I feel about him. You wanna know why? Because I judge him on his character and his heart.

I think any sane person would agree that people in this country don't hate each other as much as CNN, celebrity sing-a-longs, or mommy groups on Facebook would have you believe. Yet it's easy to forget with the onslaught of negative media. During COVID, when I'd say goodbye to random people as I shopped and what not, I'd end with "stay safe." I had meant as far as the 'rona goes, but I just recently started wondering what specifically the other person thinks I'm telling them to stay safe from. Lately, I'm not even sure myself when I say it.

It's easy to believe that we're not as divided as advertised, but the people who want to divide us have the bigger microphones. Thank God for people like Jason Glenn who are yelling back.
