The president has finally spoken out about cancel culture. No, not the president of the United States. He was busy over the weekend tweeting things he didn't actually watch first. Which, sure, we've all been there ourselves, but none of us are the leader of the free world. No, it was Barstool President Dave Portnoy. Cancel culture came for El Presidente over a clip about Colin Kaepernick that was taken out of context (see KEVIN HART ON CANCEL CULTURE: 'STUPIDEST S*** I'VE WITNESSED IN MY 40 YEARS OF LIFE' and NANCY PELOSI WANTS ADVERTISERS AND SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORMS TO CANCEL YOU FOR BAD COVID OPINIONS). Most companies these days beg forgiveness, fire someone, and usually agree to cut someone a check. Portnoy provided receipts and made a statement that should be the standard for all companies.

Memo to the cancel cops. I knew this was coming before you did. And I’m ready. You don’t cancel me. I cancel y… https://t.co/Dy5koxjV1M— Dave Portnoy (@Dave Portnoy)1593392117.0
Listen if anybody wants to dig through our past I'm sure they will find examples of us making fun of every group of people on the planet. After all we've been doing this off color comedy thing for 17 years. The intent is always to make people laugh but I admit we don't always hit the mark. But just like with everything in life when you dig deeper you'll see our true colors. That's why I wasn't that worried about cancel culture. I knew that whatever clips or examples they dug up from the past 17 years would be taken out of context and I'd have the receipts to prove it. How did I know that? Simple. Because despite what people want to believe about us we aren't racist, we aren't sexist and we aren't any of the things the haters want to call us. ...
This is just a problem with cancel culture in general. Yes lots of things clearly need to be changed in society and it's great to have discussions about important issues. But you also have people with agendas trying high-jack important causes and just cancel people they hate because they have personal vendettas or have lost to them in business.
Nothing but respect for MY El Presidente.
Also, let's be clear about something. Because things quickly get turned into a red vs. blue thing. Barstool's subsequent comments about Kaepernick, the national anthem, Nike, etc.? Not exactly in line with the opinions of most people who frequent Louder with Crowder. I'm okay with that. People who aren't buttheads don't get upset over someone having a different opinion from theirs. Different opinions can be discussed. To paraphrase legendary political scientist Dave Mason, "There's only you and me and we just disagree." Most Americans feel the same way.
The problem is the small minority who not only want to silence you for having a different opinion from theirs, they want to silence you for any jokes they disagree with. Because they yell the loudest on Twitter, people cave to their terrorist demands because they think it's the only way to shut them up. If we're going to cancel cancel culture, more companies have to follow Portnoy's lead and, when cancel culture comes for them, tell cancel culture to "suck it."
