A crowd of about 300 in Albuquerque, New Mexico were getting rough and rowdy, trying to take down a statue of La Jornada. The crowd of Antifa, or Antifa-like rioters, pulled out a pickaxe and wanted to whack the statue. Just like Michelangelo. That's about when Stephen Ray Baca tried putting a stop to it. Well when a mob is mobbing, they don't want someone to stop them from being mobby. But Baca was also causing a bit of a stink by being a bit of a violent douche himself. A number of rioters attacked Baca, who was walking away from the crowd. They continued attacking despite him walking away. They then violently threw him to the ground. That's when Baca pulled out his gun and fired. Video of the incident below.
From KOAT Action News:
Police tell KOAT Stephen Ray Baca was taken into custody and charged with aggravated battery.
The shooting occurred at what started as a peaceful protest in Tiguex Park Monday night where a group of around 300 had gathered to call for the removal of the La Jornada sculpture in front of the Albuquerque Museum.
Officials say a vigilante group that calls themselves the New Mexico Civil Guard were also in attendance, trying to "protect" the monument and tensions arose after protestors took a pickaxe to the statue.
There is no word if Baca was a member of that group.
There's more video of Baca being a dick ahead of the shooting.
