Dave Chappelle surprised the world Friday morning with a new special, 8:46. If you know that 8:46 is the length of time Derek Chauvin had his knee on George Floyd's neck before he died, you know not to be expecting tranny or cancel culture jokes. It's raw. It's emotional. It's also something I highly recommend everyone taking the full thirty minutes to watch (side note, the podcast from WWE's The New Day as well). There's stuff that is going to make you uncomfortable, things you disagree with, and things you're going to yell "yeah, but what about ..." at. But Chappelle's perspective is one I feel is important to hear, especially since it's one I haven't experienced myself. If you want to get right to the nailing of Don Lemon and woke celebs, check out the tweet below the video.

I'm watching Don Lemon, that hotbed of reality, he says, "Where are all these celebrities? Why aren't you talking?" ...

Has anyone ever listened to me do comedy? Have I not ever said anything about these things before? ... Answer me: Do you want to see a celebrity right now? Do we give a f*** what Ja Rule thinks? Does it matter about celebrity? No, this is the streets talking for themselves; they don't need me right now.

I kept my mouth shut. And I'll still keep my mouth shut. But don't think that my silence is complicit. … Why would anyone care what their favorite comedian thinks after they saw a police officer kneel on a man's neck for eight minutes and 46 seconds?

We see you, celebrities (see CELEBRITIES DESPERATE FOR ATTENTION MAKE CRINGEY MONTAGE ABOUT RACISM IN AMERICA and IF YOU WEREN'T SICK BEFORE, HERE'S A MONTAGE OF CELEBRITIES SINGING 'IMAGINE'). The shaming of people for not speaking out in the exact way you want them to is one of the reasons I suggest separating "black lives matter" from when African-Americans say it and when the political left (i.e. including the media) says it. All because someone isn't publicly virtue-signaling about it on social media, that doesn't mean they aren't outraged or angry. It doesn't mean they aren't listening. It doesn't mean they aren't having their own conversation in real time, in REAL LIFE, with real live people. They just aren't bragging about it on their Twitter pages or Instagram timelines. Where half the people who are bragging about it are going to get distracted by another shiny object in a week or two. Tweeting the same hashtag all at once doesn't prove your virtue of anything.

As Chappelle says in 8:46, try to tell him he doesn't take what's going on seriously. Go ahead.
