Our society is sick. I don't think there is any way to argue otherwise, as each day adds more evidence atop the growing heap, and today is no exception.
Early this morning, Oct 21, yet another crowd of mouth-breathing onlookers pulled out their cell phones as Jarvis Jarrette, 32, jumped from balcony to balcony firing his gun into the Atlantic House Midtown and down at the street below. They didn't call the police, though. They immediately opened their camera apps and began recording the crime to post it to social media.
This isn't the first time a gaggle of ghoulish halfwits figured it was a better idea to pad their social media likes than to be good people.
In this case, Jarrette killed one woman in an apartment atop the Atlanta high-rise while the apathetic group of soulless fiends worked to fill their feeds with clickable content.
When the police finally did arrive, Jarette turned his attention toward them, sending fire down on officers with a rifle from the balcony. An office returned fire. Eventually, Jarrette was found dead, leading the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to treat it as an officer-involved shooting.
Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms pleaded with citizens to call the police in such situations.
"We just ask if you can put down your camera, put down your phone, call 911 and then allow us to do what we do."
The nation is in a pitiful state when such a plea must be made. Some people can't even muster an iota of decency when it matters most.
