A 7-Foot Tall Harambe Statue has Been Installed to Protest Wall Street Greed or Some Nonsense

May marked the five-year anniversary since Harambe the Gorilla was assassinated in a Cincinnati Zoo . In Harambe's name, a group of--I guess we'll call them "artists"--erected a seven-foot bronze statue of the primate. In NYC's financial district. To stare down the infamous Wall Street Bull.

Surprisingly enough, this is only the third silliest bronze statue to be installed in 2021 . The "artists" call themselves the Sapien Network and say Harambe "represents the millions of everyday people who struggle under a system that enriches wealthy elites and leaves the average person behind." They could have taken the money it costs to erect a seven-foot bronze statue of a gorilla and donate it, but they went in a different direction. To further symbolize how Wall Street has "gone bananas," the "artists" left thousands of bananas around the statue. The bananas will be donated to a food bank.
This is not the first time slackvists have tried squaring off against the Wall Street Bull. We all remember "Fearless Girl" of 2017 . She was installed by a financial institute as a shining example of the true essence of progressive activism: a performative symbolic act instead of doing the hard work for actual change . Like many progressive activists, "Fearless Girl" got bored and now hangs out somewhere else in the city.
Tourists and "influencers" are taking selfies with the statue. I just implore parents to keep a closer eye on the children. The way violent crime has been rising in NYC, NYers are already strapped. Someone may see your three-year-old get too close and see history repeat itself.
