Shocking: Haiti President Assassinated in His Own Home

Haiti President Jovenel Moïse was assassinated early Wednesday by an unnamed group of assailants. First lady Martine Moïse was shot and hospitalized as well. The announcement was made by acting Prime Minister Claude Joseph.

The security situation in the country is under the control of the Haitian National Police and the Haitian Armed Forces. All measures are being taken to guarantee the continuity of the State and to protect the Nation.

All that is known about the assailants at this time is that some of them, allegedly, spoke Spanish. No motive is known.

The Associated Press reports that Haiti's economic, political, and social problems have all gotten worse lately. Gang violence has been running rampant in Port-au-Prince. Adding to Haiti's woes is massive inflation, and both food and fuel have become scarce. There have been calls for President Moise to step down.

There was also a dispute over when President Moise should step down. According to CNN, he should have stepped down on February 7 of this year, because the term starts once the president is elected. President Moise says his term shouldn't be up until 2022, claiming his five-year term only began when he was sworn in, February 2017. His swearing-in was delayed "over allegations of voter fraud" and a "presidential runoff that was postponed twice."

This story is still breaking and will be developing throughout the day.

As an aside, how long do you think until Democrats and the American media exploit this for their January 6th "commission?" My guess is as soon as Nancy Pelosi is woken up and given her daily Metamucil injections.
