The Audubon Nature Institute was supposed to have a "Blue at the Zoo" event. Anyone wearing the color blue to show support of the local police would get a 20% discount. The zoo event was supposed to promote positive interaction between the New Orleans police department and the New Orleans community. SUPPOSED TO being the key phrase here. The event was canceled. I'll give you three guesses why:
Audubon Nature Institute heard feedback regarding the event from members of our community and from people outside our community, who feel this event could be unintentionally divisive rather than inclusive.
The zoo also had to make sure everyone knew that THE ZOO "stands firm in its support for holding law enforcement accountable for any and all unethical and unlawful behavior."
Giving people a 20% discount for wearing a blue shit could be "divisive" and not "inclusive." They didn't say what kind of a blue shirt. Or even what shade of blue. But because "blue" is associated with "back the blue," that's enough for a handful of woke twats to rob the community of a cheaper day looking at animals. Dollars to donuts says "people from outside our community" means random leftists whining on Facebook and Twitter. For this, an event meant to foster a positive relationship between cops and the community got canceled. Only ensuring more stress between cops and the community.
When you see people like Major Dingle and Deputy Silvester and Officer Joseph speaking out on social media, bullshit like this is why. A zoo giving a discount for people saying that maybe, just maybe, not call cops suck gets bullied into canceling the event. The zoo should be embarrassed and ashamed.
