Star Wars Day is celebrated by nerds, brands, and social media directors on May 4th. May 4th becomes May the Fourth becomes May the Force, etc. Really, it's an excuse for social media directors to see what punny Star Wars hashtag will get you to buy their product. One could assume working in social media puts you on the geek spectrum and that you've actually seen a Star Wars movie before. But for every social media professional debating if the "Machete Order" is the proper way to watch the original movies, there's one who tries way too hard. Like whoever runs Twitter for the Alabama Public Health Department. They want you to mask up so you can be just like ... Darth Vader.

They do know Darth Vader was the bad guy, right? Why not encourage people to mask up like Cobra Commander? Destro had a nice shiny mask. One that he was trapped in as a punishment. More people should mask up like him.
If you're that desperate for a Star Wars analogy to encourage people to cover their faces, the Mandalorian is at least the good guy. Or he was until they kicked Gina Carano off of the show. They could have gone with a Mando and Baby Yoga meme. Encouraging you to enjoy chicky nuggies, chocy milk, and masky waskies.
But for sake of argument, let's play the Darth Vader analogy out. Yes, Vader, or at least Anakin Skywalker, did need to wear a mask for his own protection. He was FORCED TO by a tyrannical dictator. Who also forced all his other underlings to wear some form of a mask. Some of them were called stormtroopers. It's true Vader had a bad case of asthma, but a good guy could have found an alternative way to help his breathing. The Emperor wanted Vader in a mask so that he would scare little children.
Vader didn't become the hero until he stood up to the dictator. The old, wrinkled, past his prime, possibly senile dictator (if that reminds you of anyone). Vader's final act of courage was taking his mask off. It was when he became human again. The Empire no doubt marked Vader down as a COVID death. And not a "repeatedly being shot with lightning bolts" death. This was also after Vader was out of breath after losing a sword fight. I'm not saying the mask hampered his ability to compete. But his opponent wasn't wearing one, so draw your own conclusions.
Maybe Alabama has something with its Darth Vader tweet after all!
