Caroline Scott has a son with sensory disorder. She also has a 94-year-old grandmother she hasn't seen since the beginning of the pandemic. Once Scott and her husband were vaccinated, they made plans to visit. Her son has a medical exception to mask requirements. The plan was for her son to wear a mask, but she contacted the airline ahead of time to warn there was a slight chance they'd have to take the mask off. Her first mistake was doing that. Her second mistake was flying Southwest Airlines. Because the pilot refused to fly them and had them tossed off the plane.
"They came on to the plane and said we needed to deplane because the captain did not feel comfortable with my son on the plane," Scott said.
The whole time, Scott said her son was wearing his mask contently and was buckled into his seat.
This isn't the first time Southwest has chosen fear over science and/or common human decency. Though ten bucks say the pilot is a Biden supporter.
I don't want to directly quote the CDC on how small the chance is for kids to spread the 'rona. If I include one or many zeros to the right of the decimal point, this will get fact-checked. So let's set aside the extremely rare possibility the 3-year-old could be carrying or spread a certain virus. Let's stay focused on what a horrible person the pilot is.
Scott had doctor's notes from medical professionals. She called the airline ahead of time, just in case there was a problem. Most importantly, when the family was thrown off the plane, the kid was sitting calmly WITH HIS MASK ON. But the pilot couldn't take the risk a 3-year-old might momentarily pull his mask down. For no other reason than the pilot is a pussy who needs to watch less CNN.
The irony is that when the family had to pay $2,000 for another flight on a different airline? The 3-year-old wore his mask the entire time without issue.
F*** you, Southwest. F*** you 3,000.
