LOCKDOWNS DIDN'T WORK
It's day 595 of two weeks to slow the spread! Remember when they told us staying home would keep us safe? The results are in, and that wasn't true. At all.
LOCKDOWNS DIDN'T DO ANYTHING
Christian Bjørnskov from the Center of Economic Studies found: "The evidence presented here suggests that lockdowns have not significantly affected the development of mortality in Europe. They have nevertheless wreaked economic havoc in most societies and may lead to a substantial number of additional deaths for other reasons." SOURCE: CES
The European Journal of Clinical Investigation found: "while small benefits cannot be excluded, we do not find significant benefits on case growth of more restrictive [nonpharmaceutical interventions]." SOURCE: EJCI
A University of Chicago study showed the virus spread MORE in homes than workplaces. SOURCE: UChicago
Science editor Sophie Fessel wrote: "Lockdowns lead to a significant reduction in physical interactions between people, which reduced the transmission of COVID-19 and saved lives. Although lockdowns have also contributed to economic recession and high unemployment rates, they can pay off in the long run." SOURCE: HealthFeedback
This fact-check was of 2 NY Post articles that used WalletHub data. Why didn't they fact-check any of the above legitimate sources when they were published before her fact-check. SOURCES: HealthFeedback , CES , Uchicago , EJCI
The entire purpose of a lockdown was to avoid "overwhelming the hospital system." "Slowing the spread" will NOT reduce total deaths. It only flattens and drags out the death and case curves. And the hospitals were never overwhelmed--temporary hospitals had barely any patients. SOURCES: USNavalInstitute , CNN , NPR
Reuters claim: "Some posts on the issue of lockdowns are missing context, and some present information that is contradicted by international studies. While it is true that more restrictive measures that aim to control the spread of SARS-CoV-2 can have an impact on income and mental health, multiple studies suggest that stay-at-home orders and other nonpharmaceutical interventions have a determining role in reducing the transmission of the virus" SOURCE: Reuters
Lockdowns only reduce transmission until you finally leave your house and interact with people again.
And as previously mentioned, studies found households had HIGHER transmission rates than businesses.
Politifact claim: "Another study [...] concluded the 'effectiveness' of these orders depends critically on the cooperation of the public. For example, although California's first-in-the-nation shelter-in-place order carries threats of fines and incarceration, its effectiveness fundamentally relies on social pressure." SOURCE: Politifact
They even admit: "Lee Riley, professor of infectious disease and vaccinology at UC Berkeley said the confusion over whether shutdowns work is understandable, considering states with some of the toughest mandates are also experiencing the biggest spikes. The problem is when these restrictions are eased or lifted, that's when we see the resurgence," Riley explained. "This is what people are looking at and saying the restrictions don't work." SOURCE: Politifact
They also cited "experts" and the CDC--would never admit they were wrong about lockdowns. "Appeal to authority" is a logical fallacy.
Lockdowns have had catastrophic impacts. One of the greatest wealth transfers in history.
