Parent Bill of Rights Would Allow Parents to Sue Schools That Exploit Their Kids, Heads to Governor’s Desk

Parent Bill of Rights Would Allow Parents to Sue Schools That Exploit Their Kids, Heads to Governor’s Desk

Teachers and administrators in Wisconsin might have to start minding their P’s and Q’s here soon, after the state’s Assembly and Senate passed a “parent bill of rights” the Daily Caller says will allow parents to sue schools in the event they “fail to inform them [parents] about their child’s gender or social transition.”

The bill comes after numerous situations just in the state of Wisconsin that should have lit a fire under the state’s lawmakers. In one case, leaked training materials from a school instructed teachers that parents were not entitled to know their kids’ identities, saying, “That knowledge must be earned.”

In another situation, a young girl attempted suicide… TWICE! After school faculty engaged in secret gender-affirming meetings with the confused child. Her parents were kept out of the loop, so much so that they weren’t even informed of the suicides until after the second attempt was so injurious that their daughter was sent to the hospital, also without their knowledge.

The Wisconsin legislation seeks to ameliorate this obvious issue in the public school system, laying out a litany of offenses schools can commit for which parents would be given the green light to sue them into oblivion.

A few of the items listed in the bill include the right to determine the names and pronouns used for the child while at school, the right to review instructional materials and outlines used by the child's school, and the right to access any education-related information regarding the child.

Hopefully, this might prevent teachers from overstepping their extremely limited authority. And if it doesn’t, well, I hope parents bankrupt the districts.

Now, I only see two things wrong with this. First, all this means is that the state will be paying out when a school violates the bill’s provisions. That’s essentially the taxpayers just forking over cash for the violations of teachers who are already sucking at the government tit. Second, I don’t see anything in the bill about offending teachers or administrators being fired immediately after a successful suit. That absolutely needs to happen.

I commend the Wisconsin State Assembly and Senate for passing this bill. I really do. But just like with most legislation, it falls short. I’d like to see it amended to include a provision to fire faculty. Of course, this is all assuming it even passed the Democratic governor’s desk. That little veto stamp might be looking pretty good for a Dem.
