People on the right have been jonesing for an alternative social media platform that a) isn't run by socialists out to censor any opinion with which they disagree, and b) works. Enter Elon Musk. He has a sh*t-ton of money. He's a free speech absolutist. And he knows a thing or two about tech and computers and stuff. Coming off of Twitter's latest censorship-o-rama, Musk sounds like he may be considering building his own platform.
By "sounds like," he says that's what he's doing. Elon Musk is considering building a new social media platform.
The rub with these platforms, besides the Rep. AOC-loving jackwagons who write the community guidelines, are the algorithms that decide what content those jackwagons want you to see versus the content you sign up to see. Whether it is your favorite right-leaning website or even just your personal friends, allowing you to see what you sign up for in chronological order goes against what Silicon Valley stands for. They want to control the information. All of the presumed throttling and shadow-banning come from the algorithms.
Musk thinks Twitter's algorithm should be open source, so users can see for themselves. One person who agrees is... former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey?
All of this could be wish-casting on our part. Musk could just be bored while he's pooping and tweeting out hypotheticals. He could also just be setting up a giant publicity stunt for a tech conference he's having next month. A social media platform that works and ISN'T controlled by one of the same four corporations would be a welcome change though. Why not Musk?
