NYC Tailor Eliot Rabin has had his haberdashery shut down for three weeks. I'm not entirely sure that his business qualifies as a haberdashery as much as I like saying the word haberdashery. But it's a small business that has been suffering thanks to the shutdown and Bill de Blasio (see ANGRY NEW YORKER CALLS OUT BILL DEBLASIO'S HYPOCRISY ON COVID-19 and BILL DE BLASIO GETS CALLED OUT FOR BEING A FAILURE IN HANDLING CORONAVIRUS). America needs to hear more stories like this.

The rules are posted on the door. We're observing every single rule and regulation that has come down.</blockquote> Okay, liquor stores are ONE HUNDRED PERCENT ESSENTIAL. Let's not get drastic here. We can all be populist AF without disrupting my bourbon supply chain. Outside that one disagreement, point to one thing this man said that doesn't make sense. If I can cover my mouth, go to a supermarket, pick up a loaf of bread, and hand it to the clerk, I can do the same with a tie at a haberdashery. Rabin isn't even that disagreeable with the guidelines. Salons and barbers can't maintain social distancing. A guy who sells clothes for a living can. His employees can as well, and he can keep paying his employees so that they can keep supporting their families. This concept of "essential" business is possibly the dumbest part of this whole to-do. I can make myself a cheeseburger, so Shake Shack isn't exactly essential. I can make myself a cup of coffee, so Starbucks isn't exactly essential. If I need a suit, or even just want a suit, a local store isn't essential, yet I can order one online because Amazon.com is? Not to mention, try ordering something on Amazon lately and have it not be a third-party merchant from a certain country you may not want to order something from right now. See also eBay, see also most Facebook ads. Eliot Rabin isn't alone. Everything he said is almost verbatim what I see local business-owning friends saying on social media. You can read their stress in their words. Also in the increasingly frequent use of profanity.
