In the early 1990s, Jimmy Fallon appeared on an SNL sketch with dark face paint for a Chris Rock impersonation. From a comedic standpoint, it was a decent impersonation. Twenty years later, it's considered blackface and is offensive to people on Twitter. Hence #jimmyfallonisoverparty trending on Tuesday morning. Maybe people were bored from the lockdown, I don't know. But one person "rediscovered" the video (two years after it was "rediscovered" before. But by now you see know how this goes).
When cancel culture comes for you, there are two ways to handle it. You can fight back (see WATCH: DAVE CHAPPELLE MOCKS PERPETUALLY OUTRAGED WHINERS WITH BRUTAL IMPRESSION and KEVIN HART GIVES AWESOME INTERVIEW ABOUT TWEET/OSCAR CONTROVERSY). Or you can take a serrated knife out of the drawer, put your manhood on the kitchen island (just your manhood on the kitchen island) and castrate yourself. Guess who is a eunuch now?
Yesterday, a few of us were discussing this around the Black Rifle Coffee station in the break room. I was trying to make the case that #jimmyfallonisoverparty isn't a real thing, because it was only trending because of people making fun of the idea of Jimmy Fallon being "over" because of a twenty-year-old sketch. The trend was people mocking cancel culture, not people actually looking to cancel Fallon. My coworkers said I was wrong. Fallon sided with them. I mean, "Thank all of you for holding me accountable"?! Seriously, sack up, dude.
The real punchline here is I can guarantee you one person wasn't upset with Fallon doing an impersonation of Chris Rock: Chris Rock.
